May 21, 2014

Elise Kikis and her students Nakeirah Christie (C’15), Amy Lee (C’16), Hannah Fay (C’15), and Amelia Gray (C’16) just published a paper in PLoS ONE, titled “Novel Polyglutamine Model Uncouples Proteotoxicity from Aging.” They describe their work of two years during which time they characterized the toxic effects of the aggregation-prone ataxin-3 protein that leads to the neurodegenerative disease known as Machado-Joseph Disease. They plan to expand on this work during the next academic year.
