Professor Moore Publishes Invited Manuscript in Herpetology Journal

South American Journal of Herpetology cover

Collaborative biological research of Dr. Brandon Moore (Sewanee) and Dr. Diane Kelly (University of Massachusetts at Amherst) was highlighted in an invited issue of the South American Journal of Herpetology dedicated to crocodilian reproduction.  The new research highlighted in the journal was derived from papers presented at the 23rd Working Meeting of the Crocodile Specialist Group held in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA, in May 2014.  In this new exploration, Drs. Moore and Kelly characterize the structural and functional aspects of American alligator sperm transfer during copulation in “Histological Investigation of the Adult Alligator Phallic Sulcus.” In addition to clarifying physiological mechanisms associated with crocodilian fertility, this work also has implication in improving assisted reproduction techniques of endangered crocodilian species worldwide.
