Stephanie Loria, an Ecology and Biodiversity major in the class of 2011, and Biology Professor Kirk Zigler are authors on a new paper published in the International Journal of Myriapodology.

The paper examined the chemical defenses of Tetracion jonesi, a cave millipede that Stephanie has studied for the past two years. This millipede is found exclusively in  caves in the Cumberland Plateau of Alabama and Tennessee.   Through methanol extraction and gas chromatography methodology, they were able to identify p-cresol to be the sole component of the millipede's chemical defense.
